Extracting GPS+timestamp
#1
Hi,
I have bought a dashboard camera for research purposes. I need synchronized video, audio and GPS data. The camera specification say they are all synchronized. However, when I save the GPS in KML format (only option with the accompanied X2Player), it saves KML without timestamps i.e. "LineString" option.

When I play the avi video (MJPG) captured using the camera, I can see the GPS coordinates and speed on the top of video. Can anyone help me how to extract gps and speed from MJPG video.

I have tried to save the MJPG to frame-wise JPG image using ffmpeg and look for the exif header information for the GPS. The exif header either not storing the GPS information or my way of extracting frame is not correct.

Your feedback will be much appreciated.

Thanks

As fast answer (not checked) please take a look at the openstreetmap wiki here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Video_mapping

For better understanding your problem, please let us know which camera you bought and which operating system you are using.

Just give GPSBabel, XnView or IrfanView a try.

Thanks a lot for a quick reply.

I bought the camera from amazon (2.7-Inch TFT DUAL CAMERA CAR DVR GPS LOGGER G-SENSOR VEHICLE SYNCHRONOUS RECORDER).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/2-7-Inch-G-SENSO...ens+camera

It records the data on micro SD. When the SD card plugged into PC (windows 7), it shows "x2 player" icon and by clicking this the player one can access all avi and kml files. One can download the player ( http://thedashcamstore.com/dashcam-video...-software/) to play the avi files (MJPG) which contain the GPS data as well. It says "Use this software to view the .AVI video and GPS data recorded by: DVR-R300 Dual Lens Dashcam with GPS"

Hope this will give you so direction.

Thanks
